WBS Institute for Asian Educators Development
Upholding the Legacy of Service – Advancing Teachers’ Welfare and Professionalism
Message from the President
“2015 has been a year of expansion, reflection, and renewed vigor. Our mission to represent and support Filipino educators continues to evolve in response to the pressing needs of our time. With deep gratitude, we recognize all our members and partners who help carry the torch of service and education.”
2015 Regional Teachers’ Dialogues
WBS conducted regional dialogues in Davao City, Cebu, and Laoag, gathering over 450 educators. These gatherings fostered open discussion on professional challenges, curriculum issues, and the need for localized educational approaches. WBS compiled insights into a national position paper submitted to the Department of Education.
Medical and Burial Assistance Fund
Thanks to increased contributions, the WBS Medical and Burial Assistance Fund supported 36 retired and impoverished teachers this year. We provided medical aid, monthly stipends, and dignified funerals for teachers with no family support. This remains one of our most compassionate initiatives, reminding us of our enduring solidarity.
Asian Affiliates Exchange Program Launched
WBS launched its first Educators Exchange Program in partnership with a teachers’ union in Vietnam. Two Filipino educators spent two weeks in Ho Chi Minh City, observing classes, sharing Filipino teaching methods, and fostering cultural exchange. Plans are underway to reciprocate with Vietnamese teachers visiting the Philippines in 2016.
Skills Enhancement for English Teachers
Responding to growing demand for English language proficiency, WBS held two major training seminars in Baguio and Iloilo focused on improving English communication skills and pedagogical techniques. Over 170 teachers from public schools and community learning centers participated.
Advocacy for Mass-Oriented Education
Our education committee developed resource modules on “Education for Liberation”, equipping teachers with tools to integrate social awareness, nationalism, and scientific thinking into their classrooms. The modules were piloted in five schools in Mindoro and Eastern Visayas.
Teacher Solidarity and Social Transformation
WBS was an active participant in the 2015 National Forum on Education and Development, emphasizing the role of educators in shaping inclusive, democratic societies. We also supported grassroots campaigns advocating for increased public education funding.
Words of Gratitude
We thank our ever-growing network of volunteers, members, and donors who give life to our programs. Your love for education and for your fellow teachers fuels WBS’ continuing journey.
Looking Ahead to 2016
We will focus on expanding support to remote communities, intensifying advocacy for teachers’ rights, and developing our publication program to amplify the voices of Filipino educators. Together, we remain committed to a just, relevant, and transformative education.
